Stanley Nwabali Biography

Nwabali was born in Port Harcourt on 10 June 1996 into an Igbo Christian family. He is from Rivers State. He considers German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer as his role model. His last name Nwabali, means “Child of the Night” in the Igbo language.

Club Career

Stanley showcased his football skills right from a tender age and this led him to be enrolled in a football academy which became a stepping stone for his career.

In 2019, he joined Go Round FC, before later moving to Enyimba in 2020 and this became a springboard for him as he also play for Katsina United and Lobi stars.

He gained popularity after playing an international friendly with the national team against Mexico in the United States in 2021 which earned him a cap.

He was later signed to the Premier league club, Chippa United as a goalkeeper and this also extended his popularity in the football sphere.

He was named in Jose paseiro’s Super Eagles final 25 man squad list for Afcon 2023 in Ivory coast.

He began all three group matches and also kept a clean sheet in Nigeria’s 2 nil win over Cameroon in their round of 16 tie before being withdrawn during the closing moments for what looked like an apparent knee injury after a collision with a Cameroonian player.

In 2019, Nwabili joined Go Round FC where he started his career as a striker, before later securing a move to Enyimba in 2020, followed by joining Lobi Stars, Katsina United, and Chippa United in 2022.

International career

Nwabili earned his first cap for the Nigerian national team in 2021, in an international friendly against Mexico in Los Angeles, United States.

In December 2023, he was called up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. He was named Man of the Match in the semi-final encounter against South Africa, as he saved two penalties in a 4–2 victory during the shootouts following a 1–1 draw, which qualified his country to the final.
