Mercy Isoyip who is professionally known as Descushiel is a Nigerian actress, rapper, and model. She was born on the 11th of July, 1990 in Calabar and currently resides in the US.

She completed her Primary School Education at Command Children School, Calabar. After that, she joined Zenith High School where she finished her Secondary School Education.

Upon completion of Secondary School, she enrolled in the University Of Calabar where she obtained a degree in Accounting.

Descushiel also studied Acting and Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in the US.

Descushiel is a multifaceted lady. She is an actress, rapper, and model.

Just like the numerous other musicians, her music journey started in the church when she was still a child, since then, she has retained that passion for music from her childhood up until adulthood. She started her professional music career with a cover for Lil Uzi Vert’s hit record ‘XO Tour’ and her own edition/cover was named XXO Tour.

On the 29th of September, 2017, Flavour premiered the official music video for his song ‘Nneketa’ and she was the model in the music video. She once modeled for Delta soap, a very popular soap brand back in the day.

Controversy

In October 2023, during a conference for Senior Police Officers in Imo State, the actress and rapper who was fully dressed in the Nigerian Police Uniform was given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem. In what could be believed to be stage fright, the actress muddled up the National Anthem at the public function. Her recitation of the anthem got the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, and other dignitaries present at the event looking very surprised at the way she recited the National anthem, and the video immediately started trending online.

Descushiel made a video later on, apologizing to Nigerians for the error she made during the recitation of the National Anthem.

“I sincerely apologize for the error I made during the recital of the National Anthem, I know such errors are inexcusable,” Descushiel said.

“My good people of our country, please accept my apology, as well as my assurance that I will be more careful in the future to prevent such incidents from recurring.”

“God bless the Nigeria Police Force. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The Nigerian Police Force pardoned the actress, stating that ‘To Err is Human’. Speaking at an event, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun suggested that stage fright may have contributed to the actress’s error, considering the presence of a significant audience of dignitaries at the event. He advocated giving her another opportunity to recite the National Anthem at a public gathering.
